How to plan a two-day trip to Jersey

Jersey

A few years ago I took both of the kids to Guernsey in the Channel Islands and it was one the best family trips we have done together with it being an easy destination to reach from the UK. We took the ferry to Guernsey as it meant we could explore the whole of the island easily but you can also fly to the Channel Islands which also makes it a great weekend break option.

We are now planning to go back but this time we are heading to Jersey, I have been putting together an itinerary and travel plans and wanted to share this as the Channel Islands is a great option for a variety of reasons. So do you want to book a weekend break that’s close to home but offers beautiful beaches, historic sites and great food? Then I hope this post will inspire you book a trip to Jersey.

As mentioned, it’s part of the Channel Islands and sits between England and France, making it a great choice if you’re keen to book a break without travelling far from the UK and also if you are looking for a flight-free option.

Jersey

Take a look at my tips below for creating a fun two-day itinerary for Jersey.

Day One

Morning

Start your day with a visit to Mont Orgueil Castle near the fishing village of Gorey on the east coast.
It’s over 800 years old and is “a symbol of Jersey’s history”, says Jersey Heritage, offering “a story of the Norman conquest, French invasion and Jersey’s long-standing connection to the English crown”.
You can head to the top of the castle where you’ll be treated to incredible views over Jersey and the English Channel.

Afternoon

After exploring the castle, head for a stroll along the Royal Bay of Grouville, often referred to as Long Beach. This stretch of golden sand is the perfect place to take a walk, enjoy a picnic or sit back and relax with a good book. Take your swimming costume and have a dip in the sea or take part in water sports like wakeboarding or banana boat rides.

Evening

Dine at one of the many local restaurants, there are quite a few seafood restaurants if your keen to savour fresh catches from the surrounding waters.

Day Two

Morning

On your second day, go to St Helier – the capital of Jersey. It’s the only town on the island and has plenty to offer tourists, including great shops, galleries, museums and more.

Visit the Old Harbour and Saint Helier Marina to admire the boats before exploring the impressive Maritime Museum. Afterwards, head into town to see the Royal Square, Millenium Park and the Parade Gardens.

Afternoon

After exploring St Helier, you could visit the incredible La Mare Wine Estate, which reopens for tours on the 26th of March 2025. Here, you can take a stroll around the vineyard, enjoy a glass of vino and explore the distillery.

If you’re travelling with kids, you’ll be happy to hear that there’s an adventure playground and large gardens for them to run around in, as well as a Treasure Hunt that’ll keep them entertained. Stock up on tasty treats at their Estate Shop where you’ll find incredible products like wine and cider, fudges and chocolates, preserves and Jersey Black butter.

Evening

Head to a cosy pub for dinner, enjoy a cocktail or two at a bar or visit a live music venue such as Blue Note Bar in St Helier.

There are plenty of fantastic things to do during a weekend break in Jersey, from soaking in historical sites to strolls along the beach. Whatever you decide to do, you’re sure to enjoy your trip to the island. You can also travel easily between Guernsey and Jersey as both islands offer a lot for families to explore.
