overseas wedding

If you are in the planning stage of your wedding then why not consider a wedding abroad? There are many fantastic reasons for going down this route and if you are someone who is looking for something unique and has a passion for travel, this could be the perfect option.

Here are a few reasons why a wedding overseas is a great idea.

1. Perfect for couples looking for less fuss

Many people don't want a big wedding and rather have a smaller more intimate affair. Getting married abroad will make it much easier to reduce numbers (you have the perfect excuse to not invite "that one cousin") and help keep things simple.

2. Guaranteed Sunshine

While no destination is sunny 100% of the time, many are far more reliable than the UK. If you are especially keen on a beach or outdoor wedding, then opt for warmer climates with consistently good weather such as Spain, Greece or even further afield like South Africa are all good choices.

3. Combine a wedding and honeymoon

Having a wedding overseas can actually be quite a budget-friendly option as firstly your are likely to keep numbers of invites much smaller and you can combine your wedding and honeymoon into one trip (or make it a base from which to explore more)

4. Fantastic venue choices

You can really let you imagination go wild as the world is filled with incredible venues and hotels perfect for a wedding. A castle in France,  a beach in Thailand, why not, or what about super modern hotel wedding venues Singapore.

Things you need to consider when planning an overseas wedding.

Make a budget for essential costs.

Take into account for legal fees, flights, accommodation and venue wedding package. Decide if you will cover some of the travel costs of your key bridal party such as the maid of honour, best man or bridesmaids if you're having any.  You will also need to be clear with your invited guests what they are expected to pay in terms of travel and accommodation and do this as far in advance as possible.

Get your paperwork in order

As a rule of thumb, most countries will require the following paperwork, firstly your passport and birth certificates. Some countries require a ‘Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage’ which you will need to obtain from a local department of foreign affairs. Some countries will also require an ‘apostille’ stamp that makes them legal in the country where the marriage takes place. It also goes without saying that the venue you choose will need to be fully licensed under government regulations.

The great thing about weddings abroad is being able to say "I do" with the people who mean the most to you in a beautiful location. it means a step away from reality and adds to the magic of it all and it surprisingly can also be a more budget-friendly option than a big do here in the UK.
