When it comes to screen time we don't watch an awful lot in our household and while the kids are still young we have restrictions but we do love a trip to the cinema for a day out and there is always something special about watching a movie on the big screen. When I heard about the new Star Wars films coming out I knew it would be one for the boys as John is a big fan of the original series and while I had my apprehensions about it I didn't want to stand in the way of a father and son connection as John has relieved his youth and passed on this enthusiasm for film to our son. So it was with much excitement when
Egmont sent us some fantastic books to inspire reading and creativity at home.
Also our eldest has a real fascination with space and I think Star Wars just has that natural attraction for the fantastical and incredible. With our eldest learning how to read we are always encouraging him to do this on his own steam at home but it can be hard finding things that really ignite that want. While he still needs some help this Star Wars The Force Awakens picture story book is a perfect combination of captivating images with words and he didn't need much encouragement to want to read...even his younger brother tried to get in on the action.
Another thing we are always encouraging is an interest in art and drawing something my eldest has struggled with over the years, he never liked colouring in and while he does love craft projects and baking he has lacked some self belief in his own ability to draw. His favourite in the collection sent over is the Star Wars Make and Do book and while there are some very fun ideas and crafts in the book including finger puppets and a Yoda Decoder he went straight for the drawing tutorials. He literally spent a good 2hrs drawing Yoda, R2-D2, Obi-Wan and a very impressive X-wing, in fact we have never seen such amazing drawing by him before and it was really lovely to see.
For those who don't know it's Star Wars Day on the 4th of May, we already have a costume prepared but if you don't the Make & Do book has a great tutorial for a Stormtrooper Helmet and best of all is I have a little giveaway for one of my readers to win The Star Wars Make & Do book and Star Wars Adventures in Wild Space Series.
The giveaway ends on the 4th May 2017 and is Open to UK residents only
