Exploring Porthkerry Country park

Viaduct

It's really quite embarrassing really that we have not been to Porthkerry country park before being that it's only about 35 mins drive away from where we are based, well I have actually been there but that was before Mr A came along. It's just been one of those things where we have been meaning to do and I am pretty sure we are going to be back many many times more, even before the year has passed.

The country park is simply stunning with a beautiful Viaduct that runs through it. You also have the best of both worlds, wild woodland and open meadows with a stream running through it for pond dipping as well as a private little pebble beach which you can watch plans fly in low as it's near the airport. On this occasion we visited the park with friends which meant I didn't take as many photos as usual but intact that was actually quite refreshing to just relax and enjoy the fresh air and have a chat over a cup of tea in the wood cabin.

Mr A actually found a really cool fossil on the beach and this area is known for them, which was exciting for both him and I. It was a strange feeling to think that only last week we were up in the air flying off to Amsterdam and now we were watching the same planes fly in low as they came into Cardiff Airport. I love simple days like these spent outdoors, splashing in puddles, looking for newts in the stream and spending time next to the sea...Porthkerry you have made it onto our top 10 local places to spend outdoors that is for sure.

  4. I love Porthkerry! I grew up right by here and it is one of my favourite places. So much to do there and brilliant all year round. Every summer we have a big family get-together and picnic here and it's lovely to see four generations enjoying such a beautiful place. Glad you had fun and hope you get to visit again soon. xx

  6. Wow - what a beautiful place! I think it always happens that places on our doorsteps are often overlooked in favour of travelling so much further to more well known places. But it just goes to show what we're missing!!! Love that you found a fossil too. I could spend all day looking for interesting things like that on a beach - my idea of heaven. So great that you've discovered such a special place!! Thanks so much to linking up with us at #SundayStars. xx Steph xx
