The New Northerner and BIG Blog Giveaway

16/11/2013

So we have a very exciting post today, I wanted to introduce you to the lovely Lucy from the foodie travel inspired blog The New Northern and we also have an AMAZING giveaway with tons of prizes for one special reader….first of all let me introduce Lucy

New Northerner

Hello! I’m Lucy. After growing up on the family dairy farm in Somerset, I now live up north in Manchester. I blog about my life and loves as I enjoy turning into a northerner, from trying the yummiest food that the city has to offer and exploring the sights, as well as the little joys in life such as my questionable attempts at baking, rambling in the countryside and enjoying home comforts.

2. You’re a southerner living in a northern city, how did that happen?

When it came towards leaving university and looking for a graduate job, I always knew that I’d end up moving away from home as there aren’t many job opportunities in the middle of Somerset, unless you’re looking to work on a farm. Whilst I love animals and always helped out on the farm when I was younger, manual labour in all winds and weathers wasn’t particularly appealing for a 21 year old girl, so I sent off applications for a few graduate jobs all around the country. Luckily enough I got a job offer in Manchester. I didn’t know the city at all before I went there for interviews, and didn’t know a single soul there, but I took the gamble that I would like it, and I’ve been here ever since.

3. You recently went to Italy, how was that, what were the highlights

Oh, there are so many to choose from! Florence was just beautiful; I seriously wish I could move there! The artwork everywhere was also absolutely stunning, from sculptures to portraits…even the ceilings.
In Rome, I adored the Palazzo Doria Pamphilj – a gorgeous little hideaway from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Italian travels

4. What is your number one country to visit on your bucket list and why?

I would love to visit Morocco. The bustling markets and ornate palaces look like they’d just suck me in, whilst the blend of European and Islamic influences makes for a fascinating culture.

5. You look like a person who loves good food, what is your favourite dish?

My favourite meal in the whole world has to be my Grandma’s roast dinners. Succulent beef soaked in gravy, roast potatoes that melt in the mouth…it’s seriously the best. When it comes to dessert, I have a massive sweet tooth so my current favourite treat are macarons!

6. You have said to be a bit of a beauty product hoarder, what is the one beauty product you cannot live without and why?

My favourite has to be my L’Occitane Angelica UV Shield moisturiser. I’m super pale so I have to wear a good SPF in the summer, yet many sun lotions can feel thick and sticky. This just glides over the skin, feeling really luxurious, whilst still feeling light and not at all heavy.

7. One thing most people don't know about you?

I absolutely adore musicals. From cheese-tastic Mamma Mia to the jaw-droppingly spectacular Phantom of the Opera. Personally, I couldn’t sing to save my life, but I really enjoy it when other people can do it so well!
