Beautiful Lisbon, Portugal |
I couldn't think of anything better to do right now than jetting off to somewhere hot, since all of this British sun is making me miss my time in the South of France, a european beach city festival break would be right up my street. So if you are equally looking for something different why not check out the amazing lineup at the Optimus Alive 2 in Lisbon, Portugal, from the 12-14th July, you would need to get a move on, although you can pick up some cheap flights to Portugal, so why not throw caution to the wind and just do it. Optimus includes Green Day, Vampire Weekend, Depeche Mode, Biffy Clyro, Stereophonics, Band of Horses and James Bugg to name a few and the ticket price includes camping at a beautiful campsite within walking distance of the festival. This would of been a perfect choice for us pre-baby although we do plane to do an european festival in the near future.

If your into a more chilled out vibe, which is exactly what I am into right now, and you want to have a deeper connection with the music and surroundings why don't you consider the inspiring Artmospheric Festival, set in the heart of the West Balkan mountains, Bulgaria, 60km north of the Capital Sofia. It has limited capacity, making this a small and intimate festival celebrating electronic music, art with installations, workshops and lectures and is also family friendly

The festival has some real unique touches such as the Night Cinema, Board Games corner, Vegetarian kitchen, Chaishop, Eco toilets and Indian Teepee village to name a few. You can either camp at the festival or stay on the Biofarm next door. Best thing of all is the festival is in a country that perhaps you would not have travelled to before and it's super reasonable - only £30 from the 12-14th July. You can fly to Sofia from London Gatwick with Easyjet or to other cities in Bulgaria with airlines such as Wizz and British Airways. Being located in Cardiff you can fly to Bourgas in Bulgaria but we would be tempted to drive the car to London and use the Gatwick Valet Parking - knowing that we can drop it off and pick it up is an extra peace of mind especially when you travel with younger members of the family.

If you cannot get the time off or you are looking for something a little bit closer to home - Camp Bestival, at Ludworth Castle in Dorset have just released their full line up and it caters for everyone's taste. At Camp Bestival not only are Kids king but so are their parents and we cannot wait for August as this will be our first family Camp Bestival and I am sure not the last. Acts we are looking forward to seeing are DJ Yoda, Labrinth, Grandmaster Flash, Billy Bragg and of course Mr A's favourite will be Mr Tumble. With tons of workshops and entertainment including an insect circus, Art town, Science Tent and jousting, this is going to be one action packed weekend and Kids under 10 go free - Bonus!

While I rarely have the opportunity to participate in festivals, I celebrate their existence and know that they are a beautiful escape from the day to day and a wonderful opportunity to connect with like-minded people and renew one's creative spirit through art, music and community-oriented education. Thank you for these wonderful and uncommon suggestions!

As it is mentioned you can fly to Sofia from London Gatwick but you choose a road trip that sounds interesting, use the Gatwick Valet Parking - knowing that it can drop you off and pick you up is an extra peace of mind especially when you travel with younger members of the family. Gatwick meet and greet Parking is really an awesome service.
