Cornwall England

North Cornwall is somewhere my kids and I keep going back to, it has everything you want when it comes to a British Staycation. Endless coastline, walks trails, country parks and quaint villages. While no one can guarantee the weather, Cornwall's climate is milder and offers more sunshine than the rest of Britain, making is a great spot for a holiday or even investing in a holiday home, something I hope to do one day as I actually went to University in Cornwall and have always longed to have a small base down that way.

Here are 10 reasons why North Cornwall makes for the perfect staycation

1. Surfing

Cornwall is known for it's beautiful beaches and with Fistral Beach in Newquay well known for being one of the best surfing spots in the UK, this is definitely the place to be whether a complete beginner or a seasoned surfer. There are of course many other spots in North Cornwall other than Fistral, such as Widemonth Bay, St Agnes and Perranporth.

 2. The Camel Trail

18 miles of almost level trail that passes through stunning countryside and is perfect for families who love cycling and walking and is great for all ages as you can do as much or as little of the trail as you want. If you haven't brought your bikes with you there are plenty of places you can hire ones from in Padstow, Bodmin and Wadebridge.

3. Step into history at Tintagel Castle

Walk through the journey and folklore of King Arthur, across the huge suspension bridge over to Tintagel Castle, set high on the headland with amazing views across the ocean. Looked after by The English Heritage site, this is a great family-friendly day out that won't disappoint. If you have already done Tintagel, Launceston Castle is another fantastic castle worth visiting.

4. St Nectan's Glen and Waterfall

The waters are said to have healing properties but that's not all that makes St Nectan's Glen so special. With unspoilt woodland walks that take you to waterfalls, surrounded by ancient woodland, this is a beautiful spot to spend a few hours exploring and great for families.

5. The Eden Project

Yes this is a very well-known attraction but for all the right reasons and while I am usually the type to avoid overly popular places The Eden Project is absolutely worth a visit and is both engaging and educational for all ages It immerses you into nature in a unique and inspiring way.

6. Beautiful Holiday lodges

North Cornwall is the perfect spot to invest in a holiday home that you can use over and over again, often providing private sites that remain calm and tranquil all year round. Places with caravans for sale on site in Cornwall like Silverbow near Perranporth, an owners-only park, developed to accentuate the local environment and has beautiful mobile homes starting at £40,000 offer the perfect spot for year-round holidays.

7. Enjoy local delicacies in Padstow

Padstow, well known for its foodie spots including Rick Stein's along with several other delicious restaurants, where the fishermen bring in fresh seafood daily to the harbour and you can literally eat straight from catch to plate. However if seafood doesn't interest you then trying a freshly baked Cornish pasty, saffron bun or Cornish cream tea, is always a great option.

8. Coastal Paths and Wildlife watching

The great thing about North Cornwall is there is plenty to do for free, so many coastal paths and walking trails with something for everyone in terms of distance and suitability. You can frequently spot dolphins and seals and other wildlife along the coast making it a great spot for those who love the great outdoors.

Have you been to Cornwall before? If so what are your favourite things to see and do in the area? I have also written a weekend guide to Fowey, one of my favourite spots in Cornwall, do check that post out.
